Graduated in Medicine and Surgery and specialized in Nutrition Sciences at the La Sapienza University of Rome, Dr. Roberta Ienca is an expert in clinical nutrition. Dr. Ienca, how is obesity treated today?

The Elipse Intragastric Balloon has been used for years, a state-of-the-art medical device designed to promote weight loss in obese or overweight individuals, when used in conjunction with a Dietary and Behavioral Change Program and under the direct supervision of doctors. experienced and competent. Until recently, intragastric devices were positioned and subsequently removed only with endoscopic procedures that required anesthesia; the latest generation Elipse balloon is instead positioned and expelled in a completely non-invasive way.
Does the positioning of the balloon take place in a truly revolutionary way compared to the past?
Absolutely yes! During a simple outpatient session lasting about 15-20 minutes, the patient ingests a small capsule containing the deflated balloon. After the X-rays have confirmed its correct positioning in the stomach, it is filled with water using a small tube. During the following four months of therapy, the patient will have to transmit the data to us through an “intelligent scale”, to receive advice and assistance in real time, in order to maximize the effectiveness of the Program. After this period, the balloon will automatically empty and will be expelled in a completely natural way without having to resort to endoscopic removal procedures.
